Prompt: Spemily! Spencer gets rejected from Princeston University and Emily comforts her :)
“Spencer…”
“Emily, I don’t want to talk right now!” Spencer exclaimed, throwing herself face down onto her bed. She curled her arms around her pillow and pulled it close, burying her face in it. As a result, her next sentence was slightly muffled “Just leave me alone.”
“Spencer.” Emily repeated in a slightly firmer voice. When Spencer didn’t look she walked over to sit on the bed next to her and placed a comforting hand on her back “Spence, I know this is awful but it’s not the end of the…”
“Yes, it is!” Spencer exclaimed, sitting up so suddenly that Emily startled slightly “It is Em! If I’m not the perfect Spencer Hastings who never fails at anything, what am I? What are my parents going to think…” her voice cracked and she looked away as tears flooded her eyes “They’re going to be dissapointed.”
“Your parents will understand. You didn’t fail. You know how hard it is to get into Princeton…”
“But my grades are perfect! I should have been able to do it.” Spencer angrily dashed tears from her cheeks “Have you met my parents by the way, Em? Do they seem like they’d be likely to understand?”
“Spence, they love you. They might not show it but they do. They won’t care about Princeton or…”
“But I care!” Spencer practically yelled, effectively interrupting Emily’s attempted reassurances. She turned her gaze down to the bedspread underneath her, her tears coming thicker and faster “Princeton was my chance. What do I have now?!”
“Oh, Spence.” Without hesitation Emily shifted on the bed and wrapped her arms around Spencer, pulling her close “You still have me.”
